How to look your best in your portraits
- What should I wear?
-
Portraits are a great way to mark this important time in your life. Your attire for your portrait session should be professional. Most people dress as though they were going to a job interview. A Cap & Gown pose will also be included in your session. The studio will provide this attire.
You will be choosing one of your poses to appear in the yearbook. Your school has the following guidelines for this image:

- Tanning?
Tans look great in portraits, however sunburns do not. Avoid heavy sun exposure the week prior to your session. For ladies, you may be wearing a drape in some of your photos, so try to avoid tan lines created by bathing suit straps.
- Is Retouching Available?
-
Don’t worry about any blemishes that may appear before your session. Standard retouching is included in your portrait package at no additional charge. Standard retouching includes blemish removal and softening of facial lines.
We also offer state of the art Enhanced Retouching, which can remove scars, tan lines and tattoos. Enhanced retouching is charged on a per pose basis. More information will be included in your proof packet.
- A Word about Glasses
If you wear glasses all or most of the time, you’ll want to wear them in your portraits too. Your professional photographer will make every attempt to eliminate photography issues. However, if you can borrow a set of empty frames from your optician, you can avoid issues like glare and distortion in your portraits.
- Some Suggestions for Ladies
-
Hair: The best advise is to wear your hair the way you like it best. Trying a new style for the session could be risky. Try not to have any major styling done to your hair – like a cut, perm or color – less than a week before your session. A little hairspray also helps to control loose ends.
Makeup: Natural looking makeup makes the best portrait. Eye shadow can really bring out your eyes and an extra coat of mascara will make your lashes look longer and fuller. Bring lipstick and cover up for those last minute touch-ups.
- Some Suggestions for Guys
-
Hair: Allow at least a week between a haircut and your portrait session, to avoid that “just cut” look.
Shaving: A fresh shave looks the best. If you wear a mustache, goatee or beard, please have it trimmed for a neat appearance.
